About the Event

The skies above Nandi Hills are among the darkest within two hours of Bengaluru, making it one of the best spots in the region to observe the Milky Way, planets, and deep-sky objects with the naked eye or a telescope.

This evening event is open to all — from curious beginners to seasoned amateur astronomers.

What to Expect

  • 7:00 PM — Arrival and welcome. Light snacks provided.
  • 7:30 PM — Introduction to the night sky: orientation, seasonal constellations, and mythology.
  • 8:30 PM — Telescope viewing: Saturn’s rings, Jupiter’s moons, and the Orion Nebula (weather permitting).
  • 10:00 PM — Open sky time. Bring your binoculars if you have them.
  • 11:30 PM — Campfire, chai, and stargazing stories.
  • 1:00 AM — Event ends.

What to Bring

  • Warm layers (Nandi Hills gets cold after sunset)
  • Red-light torch (preserves night vision)
  • Binoculars if available
  • Mat or folding chair for lying back

Getting There

The event meets at the upper car park near the Tipu’s Drop viewpoint. Carpooling coordination will be shared with registered participants.

Notes

  • No experience required — guides will explain everything.
  • Light pollution from mobile screens reduces visibility for everyone. Please use red-light mode on your phone.
  • The event will be cancelled and rescheduled if the sky is overcast.
